The Campaign Story

Built on 175 years of purpose. Ready for what comes next.

Honor the Past

For more than 175 years, Illinois Wesleyan has challenged students to grow intellectually, personally, and professionally. Generations of Titans have found mentors here, explored ideas across disciplines, pursued opportunities beyond the classroom, and developed the confidence to contribute in ways that matter.

The University has evolved throughout that history. Programs have changed. New fields of study have emerged. The campus has grown. Yet the purpose at the heart of an Illinois Wesleyan education has remained constant.

Our motto, Scientia et Sapientia, calls us to unite knowledge with wisdom. It reminds us that education is not only about what students know. It is about how they think, how they act, and who they become.

This is the legacy we honor.

Shape the Future

Today's students are preparing for a world of constant change. They will navigate careers that evolve, technologies that reshape how we live and work, and challenges that require insight from many disciplines.

Illinois Wesleyan is uniquely positioned to prepare them. A strong liberal arts foundation helps students communicate clearly, think critically, approach problems creatively, and adapt with confidence. Close relationships with faculty turn information into understanding. Research, internships, study abroad, leadership, athletics, the arts, and entrepreneurship allow students to put ideas into action.

But sustaining this experience requires investment.

We must ensure that cost does not stand between talented students and an Illinois Wesleyan education. We must equip faculty with the resources to teach, mentor, and innovate. We must create spaces that reflect how students learn, live, collaborate, and build community today.

This is the future we will shape.

Why IWU, Why Now

The future will reward people who can do more than master one subject. It will need people who can connect ideas, ask better questions, work across differences, and apply knowledge with judgment and purpose.

Illinois Wesleyan has always educated the whole person. Students are encouraged to pursue more than one interest, to cross boundaries between disciplines, and to test what they learn through real experience. They graduate ready not simply for their first opportunity, but for a lifetime of growth and contribution.

Honor the Past, Shape the Future will ensure that this distinctively Wesleyan education remains strong, relevant, and available for generations to come.
